Louisiana's Department of Revenue says state sales tax on hotel and motel stays rose to 5% on January 1, 2025, and the City of New Orleans lists a combined 15% hotel/motel rate for properties with 10 or more rooms and 17% for nine or fewer, plus a per-night occupancy privilege tax. Many local authorities add their own taxes, and we could not verify a rate for any other city. The calculator below applies only those verified rates, so treat its total as a floor.

New Orleans hotel-tax calculator (combined rate, 10 or more rooms)

This calculator applies the City of New Orleans' combined 15% hotel/motel rate for properties with 10 or more rooms, as read October 20, 2026. Properties with nine or fewer rooms are listed at 17%, and stays outside Orleans and Jefferson parishes are subject to the state's 5% lodging sales tax plus any local taxes, so do not use this calculator for them. It does not include New Orleans' per-night occupancy privilege tax, the 1.75% some tourism-organization members collect, resort fees or parking, so your actual total will be higher. Ask your hotel for its all-in rate.
